Reflection on Argumentative Essay about Representation of  Minorities in the TV and Film industry

When the class was given the argumentative essay assignment, I didn’t expect there to be a topic that grabbed my interest. I saw that one of the topics were about how minorities should be represented more in film and television, and I knew I wanted to do this topic because of the amount of prior knowledge I knew of it. The representation of minorities in film and television has always caught my attention because of the lack there is of Latinos on screen. Not only is there a lack but  how I noticed the stereotypes of minorities. . Little did I know that it was going to be more complex than I thought. I assumed is was going to be a bit simpler than our last assignment, but instead this consisted of analyzing like the last essays. My different arguments dealt with my own personal experience in this topic of the essay, evidence, and articles dealing. I felt like an important part of this essay was to find enough resources to show this issue. Everything in this essay needed to be prioritized, because it needed to come together, the evidence, arguments, personal experience If I left one of them it would of been hard to write it. This argument essay allowed me to see how even the topic you’d expect to be easy to write is complex, ad how much there is than just writing your experience as an argument

The process of writing this argument essay felt somewhat similar to when I was writing the expository essay. It is because this essay had arguments with such a big issue or why it’s such a positive thing and then I will also find counters of it. Both assignments needed many resources but the expository was more informative about the positive and negative aspects of children of using puppets for language acquisition. To add on this argumentative essay  needed to persuade the audience that there is a huge lack of representation with the use of facts but didn’t a way to persuade with opinions as well. Some new approaches in the essay was the use of types of arguments there is and I used specifically classical. The others were Rogerian, Invitational and Toulmin. This argument dealt with an introduction, narration and position of your argument which is the confirmation, a counterclaim and conclusion. A lot of logos in this argument for the audience to see this viewpoint and accept it as valid, but as well pathos to grab the emotion and support from my my audience. Another new approach was fallacies. Therefore essay I worked with trying to avoid fallacies, bruise fallacies are giving an invalid argument. I used evidence, personal experience and blanked the outcome the representation in a way that made my argument fair. Each subclaim had evidence that helped show the archetypes of Latinos in film, for example. For example I askowledeg the counter argument of my claim with evidence, to avoid doing the fallacy of begging the claim. A claim with both sides may created more validity.

A new approach was qualifying  your argument that helped a lot in my argument. It created more responsibility, probability and it made my serving year plausible with words like should, could, maybe. Without thee words our claims will be class with a lack of evidence. Some old approaches were  the MLA format, which I have gotten somewhat used too, since I’ve used it in all the essays in this class. The heading, indentation format, no spaces between paragraphs, the page numbers have already been part of my routine writing these essays. While begging my essay I did adapt my thesis by adding the qualification word need in the start when been asked for it. But since it was already valid I didn’t need to change it throughout the essay except change film writers to screenwriters. I see that time has progressed since it was first time I used MLA and my understanding of it has progressed strongly. The heading now it’s the most manageable part of this format. In text citations this has developed strongly my skills as it has made me avoid the act of plagiarism, has organized my use of sources and made the writer know the credibility I give to the author of the source I use. My understanding and development with quote integration is similar to how so understood MLA. I find a way to insert a quote in a sentence that connects with it. The signal phrase, citation and this development has grown because of the amount of times I have used it. But there is st time where I still have been confused with it. It has developed my written and although the quotes feeling disconnects I have learned to transition the sources words to my words. Full source identification has developed through knowing where the names ,dares and tiles should go to label the source I have used. At first it was with citation. In addition in text citation has gotten more easy for me as I know that there are way I can label the author and page number while inserting a quote. I can either introduce the author with a signal phrase have the quote, then page number, or have quote and then author last name and page number. I have learned alot of how to combine one central topic with subsets and then combine them them all together to help show where the thesis is from. In my conclusion my evidence recap took time to understand as it was hard to find a way to explain the evidence in my body paragraphs in just a few sentences. But I have learned how to keep it all simple in my conclusion.

My review process helped  my essay a lot. For example my peer helped me see how II didn’t qualify a lot of sentences. Also my counterclaim i didnt have  alot of signal phrase. Actually all my essay I lacked of a lot of signal phrase my peer suggested me to put. I also used outside sources like my tutor Kelsey who helped me see the correct format. She also suggested to do proofreading if I find any sentences that don’t really make sense. After these suggestions I proofread in depth how each sentence transitioned to the other, how the evidence relates to the thesis, and how it took time and reading to see if it all fit right. For example I felt like my counterclaim was very weak as I did not agree with the counter, but I learned to acknowledge and find stronger sources that can enhance this vital paragraph. The understanding of my the argument grew as I read my essay again. I learned what part of the classical argument I was missing, the transition, but saw how I affirm my position. The other arguments had may limitations in staying with two perspectives. Each part of my proofreading was all separated, I started with spell checking, how clear is the sentences, how strong my arguems up to how much did I sum up everything in the conclusion. I also was able to learn how hard to was to write an essay you expect to be simple, I had this mindset in my mind, without knowing if I was going to find enough resources, good arguments, and valid counter argument sources. I was only thinking about tha the personal experience I could write in the essay than looking at the evidence.

When writing an argumentative essay, opinion is important but so if information. I was too distracted in how connected Im with this topic, because I know that minorities are not represented properly on Film and Television. It allowed me to know d expect to be easy to write is complex, and how much there is than just writing your experience as an argument. The use of evidence, proofreading was a task I found stressing since I fod my mistakes with the help of my peer and tutor. The struggles i had with transition words, not using qualification in a few sentences show that this essay was not as simple for me to finish in a day. This essay helped show my progression wit MLA and the importance of sources and how to argue in a valid way.
